Govt sets fee for Covid-19 test
A person who wants to get tested will have to spend Tk500 when giving samples from home
From now on people will have to pay for Covid-19 tests at government hospitals or laboratories.
The health ministry in a circular on June 28 said a person who wants to get tested will have to spend Tk500 when giving samples from home.
But the fee will be Tk200 at a sample-collecting hospital or booth while a hospitalised patient will have to pay Tk200 for a test.
"Currently, the Covid-19 test is free, so most people take the opportunity to have the tests done even though they have no symptoms. In such a situation, the government has set a fee to avoid unnecessary tests for the control of Covid-19 infections and proper management," the circular added.
According to the notification, the revenue earned from sample collections will be deposited in the government treasury.
Under the Servants (Medical Attendance) Rules of 1974, all the benefits related to healthcare for government officials and employees will remain in force.
Government orders regarding treatment and diagnosis of freedom fighters, distressed and poor patients will remain in force.
