Hasan for protecting nature to protect people from diseases, viruses
“As a student of environmental science, I think, this purity of nature also proves that if we protect our nature and environment, it would be easier to protect people from many diseases and viruses”
Requesting people to be generous towards the nature and environment in the country, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said It would have been easier to protect people from many diseases and viruses if they had protected nature and the environment not being ruthless.
"The whole world is plagued by the coronavirus now. But even in this situation, we are noticing some positive aspects. You have seen dolphins on Cox's Bazar beach, which would not have happened in the presence of thousands of people. The deer of the Sundarbans are roaming more comfortably than before. Not just here, it's a picture of the whole world. Nature is much clearer now than before. It proves how ruthless we are towards nature in normal times and that is why the environment and nature cannot develop in its own way," he said.
Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, came up with the remarks while he was planting tree saplings on the premises of his official residence in the capital on the occasion of 'World Environment Day'.
The minister, who obtained his PhD in environmental chemistry, said: "As a student of environmental science, I think, this purity of nature also proves that if we protect our nature and environment, it would be easier to protect people from many diseases and viruses."
He also added that the Awami League's Forest and Environment Sub-Committee has undertaken a tree planting programme of 100 species across the country on the occasion of the 'Mujib Year', dubbing the initiative as excellent.
AL Forests and Environment Affairs Secretary Delwar Hossain was present on the occasion, among others.
