HSBC continues supports for keeping Covid-19 impact down

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) in Bangladesh is increasing its supports to local communities in the time of the coronavirus outbreak. 

In this respect, the bank is providing additional funds for facilitating the purchase of critical medical gear, emergency food and hygiene materials for vulnerable families during this time. 

These initiatives are being carried out alongside the bank's trade supports for its corporate customers.

HSBC is committed to supporting 5,000 worst-hit families by the pandemic by providing them with emergency food and hygiene packs in partnership with local conglomerate City Group and the non-government organisation Sajida Foundation.

The Bank has also partnered with the Water Aid to provide personal protective equipment (PPEs) and KN95 masks for medical staff in Dhaka and Chattogram. 

The PPEs include- hand gloves, masks, goggles, shoe covers, and gowns- critical gear to treat Covid-19 patients. 

In line with this move, the bank will also organise training on Infection Prevention Control (IPC) for the medical staff. 

Md Mahbub ur Rahman, chief executive officer, HSBC Bangladesh said, "We are proud to be able to make a difference by supporting Coronavirus-hit communities and the frontline healthcare workers. 

"We will continue our supports to our employees, customers, and the communities," he added.

In partnership with HSBC, City Group and Sajida Foundation will help support some 5,000 underprivileged families during the coronavirus time. 

Md Hasan, director at City Group said, "City Group is proud of being a partner with HSBC to support the poor people during this unprecedented time."

The food packs they are providing contain an adequate quantity of essential food items, including, rice, lentils, potatoes, cooking oil, sugar, flour, soap for handwash and soap for washing clothes.

The pack distribution started on Saturday in Dhaka and its adjacent areas with the support of the Sajida Foundation.

Earlier, HSBC Bangladesh adopted a wide range of commercial banking measures to provide immediate assistance for its textile and garment-sector customers affected with the Covid-19. 

Till Saturday, the bank distributed food and medical supplies worth over Tk1 crore as part of its fight against the Covid-19 in Bangladesh.

Globally, HSBC has announced a $25m Covid-19 charitable fund for extending its support to the international medical teams, protect vulnerable people and ensure food security.
