Lockdown lifted from three areas in Narayanganj
Rupganj union will be put under lockdown
The lockdown was withdrawn from three areas in Narayanganj from Wednesday.
Deputy commissioner of Narayanganj Md Jasim Uddin said, Jamtola and Amlapara in Narayanganj City and Rupayan Town in Fatullah were put under lockdown experimentally by marking these as extra risky areas. The movement of people was restricted in these areas by bamboo barricades and police check-posts at the entrances.
Police of Narayanganj Sadar and Fatullah Police Stations removed the bamboo barricades from the entrances of these areas at around 12:30 am, enabling vehicles and people to move around. The police check-posts have also been removed, the DC added.
Officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Sadar Police Station Asaduzzaman and officer-in-charge of Fatullah Police station Aslam Hossain confirmed that the lockdown has been lifted from the three areas under the pilot project. Other areas will be kept under lockdown considering the number of coronavirus infections.
Deputy commissioner Md Jasim Uddin also said that the district administration had a virtual meeting with the Health Ministry on Tuesday where they showed a map of the Narayanganj areas where infection is rising the most. They are preparing to lockdown Rupganj union under Rupganj upazila. The area will be kept under observation for 15 to 21 days under a pilot project.
Rupganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Momtaj Begum said that from the map of the health ministry, they saw that 71 people have been tested positive for coronavirus in the union. The infection rate is rising in Rupganj union every day. It will be put under lockdown from 3:00 pm today after holding a meeting with local administration officials.
