Medical board to meet tonight over further treatment of Nasim

A medical board will meet at 8pm Monday to take a decision on the further course of treatment of former health minister Mohammad Nasim, who tested positive for Covid-19 last week and suffered a brain hemorrhage.

Professor Dr Raziul Haque, who led the medical team for the brain surgery of the former health minister, told The Business Standard on Monday. 

Nasim is currently in a deep coma at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Dhaka. 

Dr Raziul said, "Nasim's brain stem functioning would be tested several times after the medical board's discussion. He is still unconscious and his condition remains unchanged. He is on ventilation support in the intensive care unit at the hospital.

Earlier, a 13-member medical team, consisting of neurologist, neurosurgery specialist, nephrologist, endocrinologist, internal medicine specialist, has been formed for Nasim's treatment.

Besides, doctors of Bangladesh Specialised Hospital, vice chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Kanak Kanti Barua, Director of Neurosciences Institute Din Mohammad, Cardiac specialist of Lab Aid Hospital Dr Sohrabuzzaman are in the medical team. 

Prior to going into a coma, Nasim was in critical condition and in ventilation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital at Shyamoli in the capital.

On June 1, Nasim was admitted to Bangladesh Specialised Hospital with Covid-19 symptoms, including fever and cold.

He later tested positive for Covid-19 and was rushed into surgery after suffering a brain haemorrhage. Nasim underwent brain surgery at the hospital on Saturday. 

Mohammad Nasim is a diabetic patient. He had a stroke before.
