MTB, MRDI help Covid-19-hit offshore villagers
Each of the families received Tk2,000
Mutual Trust Bank, in partnership with Management and Resource Development Initiative, has distributed cash donations among 510 families in Bhola recently as part of corporate social responsibility (CSR).
The families, mostly victims for the outbreak of novel coronavirus, of Char Patila and Shahbazpur villages of Char Kukri Mukri union of Char Fashion upazila, received the donations, according to a press release issued Tuesday.
Each of the families received Tk2,000.
Among the other donation recipients, there were students of Sharifpara Government Primary School, members of Char Patila Health Care and Women Development Center and 100 marginalised families of Shahbazpur village.
Alongside the government initiatives, precise use of the CSR funds was having a positive impact on development, said speakers during the programme.
Md Ruhul Amin, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Char Fashion, Md Abul Hashem Mahajan, chairman of Char Kukri Mukri Union, and Monir Ahmed Shuvro, director, Unnayn Dhara Trust, were present at the event.
Like other parts of the country, these two remote villages have been badly affected by the ongoing crisis caused by Covid-19.
In a message on this occasion, Syed Mahbubur Rahman, managing director and CEO of Mutual Trust Bank (MTB), said, "Our aim is to make the development initiatives sustainable through proper use of CSR funds."
He also expressed his satisfaction that they were able to stand beside the coronavirus-affected people. He also expected to continue such programmes in the future.
Hasibur Rahman, executive director of Management and Resource Development Initiative (MRDI), in his message said, "Coordinated CSR efforts can make significant contribution to handling the Covid-19 pandemic, which can both supplement and complement the government's efforts."
He urged the corporate sector to come forward with this feeling.
Monir Ahmed Shuvro, director of Unnayan Dhara Trust, expressed gratitude and thanked MTB and MRDI for this initiative and hoped they would continue their effort to help the people of this offshore island.
For almost a decade MTB, under its CSR programme in partnership with MRDI and Unnayan Dhara Trust, has been implementing interventions to improve the life and livelihood of the marginalised villagers.
