A statistician of Narsingdi civil surgeon office died from reinfection of coronavirus in Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Monday.
With the death of the statistician, Abdul Matin, the death toll from coronavirus in the district rose to 18.
Sources at civil surgeon office said Abdul Matin and a few officers of their office tested coronavirus positive on April.
Abdul Matin got a negative result in the following test and rejoined his duty. Later he started showing symptoms of being infected again.
He was then taken to Narsingdi District Hospital. His samples were collected there for test. Later when his physical condition deteriorated, doctors of the hospital referred him to DMCH, where he died on Monday, the sources said.
Meanwhile, another 48 people from various upazilas of the district have been newly infected by coronavirus. With this, the total number of coronavirus infected people in the district increased to 1,079, Narsingdi Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Ibrahim Titon confirmed this.
Dr Mohammad Ibrahim Titon said, "Samples from total 5,730 have been tested till Sunday. We have got results of 4,955 people amongst them. Total 1,079 people tested positive amongst these people. Total 350 people got cured, 40 are in hospital isolation and the remaining 673 are in isolation in their home."
