Ordeal of a Covid-19 positive mother giving birth
The baby will be tested after a few days to determine whether he has coronavirus or not
Not due until May 14, housewife Kamrun Nahar suddenly began feeling labour pains on Monday morning. But this was no good news – the 24-year-old had tested positive for coronavirus just four days ago.
The family had made a booking at the Bangshal Maternity Clinic for the delivery. Kamrun was supposed to be admitted on Tuesday and then undergo a Caesarean section (C-section).
However, she felt the pain surging around 10:30am. Family members rushed her to the hospital, but the previously booked maternity clinic refused to admit her.

"We could not even find an ambulance to take her to the hospital," said Md Mainuddin, her brother.
"I thought my sister was going to die. She screamed and bled. But I could not do anything," he added.
Then they contacted police, and DMP Lalbagh Division Deputy Commissioner Iftekhar Uddin arranged a vehicle. Kamrun was then rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
At the hospital, they ran into more problems.
"The on-duty doctor refused to check the patient and we tried our best to make her agree. We requested and knocked on her door for at least an hour, but she did not respond," Mainuddin added.
Around 2pm, a nurse came and took Kamrun to the operation theatre. By that time, she had passed out, according to her brother.
Half an hour later, the nurse came out, holding a baby boy in her hands and informed the family that the mother was also alright. Later, in the evening, the mother was discharged from the hospital.
Wishing not to be named, the nurse said, "Luckily she [Kamrun] did not need a C-section. She had a normal delivery."
Brigadier general Mohammad Nasir Uddin, director of DMCH, said both the mother and child were okay now.
"We will test the baby after a few days to determine whether he has coronavirus or not," he added.
Eariler, Kamrun had fallen ill, contracting a fever and losing her appetite from the last week of April. Her family then took her to DMCH for a coronavirus test on May 6, which was positive.
