Pilot Covid vaccination starts in 5 hospitals
The pilot Covid-19 vaccination programme has been started in five hospitals in the capital.
The vaccination programme was started at 9am on Thursday.
The hospitals are- Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital, Mugda General Hospital, Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
So far 560 health workers will receive vaccines from the hospitals.
Doctor Kanak Kanti Barua, vice chancellor of BSMMU has received first vaccine at the hospital.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque will visit vaccination programme at BSMMU around 11am and at Dhaka Medical College Hospital later.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from her official residence Ganabhaban on Wednesday virtually inaugurated the programme, which aims to vaccinate 20% of the country's population with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.
Bangladesh currently has 70 lakh doses of the vaccine Covishield in stock.
Of those 50 lakh doses are purchased and 20 lakh doses were gifted by India.
