Leaders of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) on Wednesday said the management of Dainik Shomoyer Alo cannot escape the liability of the death of its newsman.
DUJ President Kuddus Afrad and General Secretary Sazzad Alam Topu made the comment in a media statement.
Senior sub-editor (shift-in-charge) of the newspaper and senior member of Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA) Mahmudul Hakim Apu died earlier in the day.
Expressing deep shock at Apu's death, DUJ leaders said the newspaper authorities did not act responsibly after the death of its city editor and chief reporter Humayun Kabir Khokon on April 29.
They should have arranged coronavirus test for their journalists, but instead they only issued a notice to work from home, DUJ leaders said demanding the management take responsibility of the family of Apu.
Information Minister Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday said journalists are continuing to work risking their lives to cover news amid coronavirus outbreak.
Mentioning that media outlets remain open during shutdown, he said 60 journalists were so far infected with coronavirus.
