‘Wearing of masks, social distancing should be ensured to avoid Covid second wave’

Health Minister, Zahid Maleque, said that the wearing of masks and maintaining social distance should be ensured to prevent the second wave of Covid-19 in the country.
"The Covid-19 infection rate in the country is lower than in many other regions across the world. As a result, number of tests has dropped," said the Minister on Saturday while inaugurating a RT-PCR lab at Colonel Malek Medical College in Manikganj.
He said, "The medicines being used in America to treat Covid-19 patients are also being used here in our country."
"We have endorsed the Oxford vaccine and signed an agreement with the world's best vaccine manufacturer. We will have the vaccines at hand as soon as they are manufactured and released to the market."
Maleque said that at the outset of the viral outbreak, the country had only one RT-PCR lab; Now it has 115 labs.
On the occasion, Principal of Colonel Malek Medical College, Dr Md Akhteruzzaman presided over the event while Project Director, Dr Khan Md Arif; Deputy-Director of the local government wing, Fouzia Khan; Superintendent of Police, Rifat Rahman Shamim; District Awami League General Secretary, Advocate Abdus Salam gave remarks.
