3 died, 12 injured, several thousands of homes and crops damaged by cyclone Bulbul
Three people were killed and 12 more were injured due to cyclone Bulbul in Patuakhali.
Around 1500 homes, 25,000 hectares of croplands along with vegetables, and two kilometres of dam have been damaged in the area. Nineteen villages were also inundated by the cyclonic surge.
Ahmed Fakir, 65, died after a tree fell on him at North Rampura village in the district's Mirzaganj. Sufia Begum, 65, died at shelter centre East Dhankhali Govt. Primary School in Kalapara.
A fisherman named Belal, 40, died as a trawler capsized during the storm in the Bay. His body was recovered from Kuakata beach.
Almost 32,000 hectares of Aman paddy were damaged in the areas as well, according to sources at the Agricultural office.
Specifically, a total of Tk31.13 crore loss occurred alone in Golachipa. In Kalapara, 5120 hectares of Aman and vegetables were damaged. In Rangbali, almost Tk33 crore worth of Aman, and other crops were destroyed.
Agricultural Officer Abdul Mannan, said, "If the flooding reduces in the fields, the amount of damage could be kept at minimum. The farmers must be provided with assistance if they are to recover from this."
Khan Md Alauddin, executive engineer at the Water Development Board in Kalapara circle, said, "A two-kilometre dam at Kalapara's Rasulpur had already been damaged by the cyclone flooding Some 15 villages in Kalapara and four in Rangabali."
