Khichuri for dinner at Satkhira shelters
Around 146,200 people have taken refuge in shelters throughout Satkhira
District administration on Saturday distributed khichuri among people who took refuge at cyclone shelters across Satkhira. More than 1.5 lakh people have taken shelter in the district's 270 cyclone centres and 1,200 educational institutions.
Zakir Hossain, chairman of Pratapnagar union parishad of Ashashuni upazila said, "More than 3,000 people have taken refuge in the union's 11 cyclone shelters. Dry food was distributed among these people on Saturday evening. Khichuri was cooked for dinner.
"Drinking water is being distributed among them."
Abu Heena Sakil, chairman of the Shriula union parishad of the same upazila said, "Khichuri was cooked for the 2,000 people who are in different shelters. Dry food was distributed earlier in the day. We have to make sure that no one suffers from hunger."
Chairman of Ramzannagar union parishad in the coastal Shamnagar upazila, Sheikh Al Mamun said, "People from the island of Golakhali, adjacent to the Sundarbans, have been brought to the local primary school. Khichuri was provided as dinner under the supervision of the union parishad."
Prashant Kumar Roy, an official of the district administration's control room said, "We have strict instructions that no one should suffer from hunger in the shelters. The upazila administration and the union parishad are providing dry food and khichuri.
"Around 146,200 people have taken shelter at the cyclone centres so far. It is tough to provide food for so many people, but there have not been any severe issues as yet."
