48 industrialists to receive CIP status

The government will honour 48 businessmen as commercially important persons (industry) for their contributions to the country's overall economic growth by setting up industries, creating employment and increasing national income in 2017.

The CIP cards will be handed over to them on November 20 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital, said Md Abdul Halim, secretary to the Ministry of Industries at a press briefing on Wednesday.

Minister of the Ministry of Industries Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun will be present as chief guest at the programme.

The industries secretary also said six industrialists will get CIP cards as ex-officio and the rest 42 business icons will get the CIP status under 8 categories.

"Of them, 15 will get CIP status under large scale industries (production), five under Large scale industries (service), nine under medium industries (production), three under medium industries (service), five under small industries (production), one under small industries (service), two under micro-industry and two under the cottage industry category," he added.    

Every nominated CIP will get a CIP card and enjoy a number of facilities including priority in seat reservation at government transports in air, road, rail and waterways, getting invitation at national events and letter of introduction from the foreign ministry for getting visa to visit aboard.

"The main agenda of giving CIP cards to them is to encourage other young entrepreneurs in business," the secretary added.

A CIP can enjoy a number of facilities once he or she has been given the card for one year.

A total of 340 businessmen have received the CIP cards since 2009.
