66 companies receive export award
Tipu Munshi said items like medicine, plastic, jute products will be added to the list of exports, along with garments, as they have good demand in the international market.
A total of 66 companies have been awarded for their contribution to the export sector in 2016-17 fiscal year.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the awards at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city on Sunday.
Some 29 companies, including Rifat Garments Limited, Badsha Textiles Limited, Envoy Textiles Limited, Akij Jute Mills Limited and Bay Footwear were awarded the gold trophy.
Another 21 companies received silver award while 16 companies received bronze trophies for their contribution in export.
“The government has successfully achieved the economic growth target and controlled inflation," Sheikh Hasina said in the programme.
Export Promotion Bureau Vice Chairman Fatima Yasmin, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries President Sheikh Fazle Fahim and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce Ministry Tofail Ahmed spoke at the event presided over by Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi.
