Authorities have seized current nets worth Tk nine crores during three days of mother Hilsha conservation drive.
According to a press release issued by Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock on Saturday, the government has imposed a 22-day ban on catching, selling, transporting and hoarding of Hilsha fish across the country, during the breeding season from 14 October to 4 November.
Three days after the ban was imposed, authorities conducted 442 mobile court drives and 3,059 special raids in all eight divisions of the country, added the press release.
445 illegal nets worth over Tk nine crore were seized during these drives, including a net almost 66 lakhs meters long.
Also, authorities have jailed 178 fishermen and imposed fines of over Tk.6.64 lakh, for illegally catching fish.
Moreover, 273 cases were filed, and 3.36mt Hilsha were also seized.
