Banks asked to freeze accounts of Salman F Rahman, family
The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) today (28 August) ordered all banks to freeze accounts of Salman F Rahman, the former adviser on private industry affairs to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
At the same time, the accounts of Salman's wife, their son Ahmed Shayan Fazlur Rahman and daughter-in-law Shazreh Rahman were also frozen.
According to a BFIU letter issued today, all transactions through the frozen personal bank accounts will be halted. No transactions will occur in these accounts for the next 30 days.
The BFIU requested an update on the status of these accounts within five working days of issuing the letter.
Salman F Rahman was arrested from the Sadarghat area of the capital along with former law minister Anisul Huq during an alleged escape attempt on 13 August, according to police.
On the same day, Salman's son Ahmed Shayan Fazlur Rahman was removed from the post of director of IFIC Bank due to loan default.
Salman F Rahman is currently the chairman of IFIC Bank.
