BFIU summons bank account details of Tofail Ahmed, family
The BFIU sent letters to all banks and financial institutions requesting the bank account details today (15 January)
The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), the financial intelligence agency, has summoned the bank account details of Awami League advisory council member and former commerce minister Tofail Ahmed.
The bank account details of his wife Anwara Begum, daughter Taslima Ahmed Zaman, son Moinul Hossain, and daughter-in-law Israt Jahan Binty have also been requested. Information regarding the Tofail Ahmed Foundation and Fatema Jame Mosque has likewise been sought.
The BFIU sent letters to all banks and financial institutions requesting the bank account details today (15 January).
The letter stated that they must provide information on the mentioned and their affiliated organisations, including account opening forms, KYC documents, transaction statements, and other relevant details.
In the last 12th National Parliamentary Election, Tofail Ahmed contested from the Bhola-1 constituency under the "Boat" symbol in what is known as a dummy election. He emerged victorious in this dummy election.
Following the resignation of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina on 5 August, amid a student and public uprising, the bank accounts of many Awami League leaders, activists, and professionals were summoned and frozen.
