NRB Global switches to Islamic banking under new name
This bank started operating as a full-fledged Islamic bank as Global Islami Bank since the start of the new year
Global Islami Bank, formerly known as NRB Global Bank, started operating as a full-fledged Islamic bank under the motto, "Banking with Faith," since the start of the new year. The bank will operate entirely on the basis of Shariah (Islamic law).
The bank's Islamic banking services started from Sunday as the first two days of the month were government holidays, reads to a media statement.
Syed Habib Hasnat, managing director of the bank, inaugurated its new operations as the chief guest of a programme organised on the day.
The bank's Additional Managing Directors Md Golam Sarwar and Kazi Mashiur Rahman Jayhad, Deputy Managing Directors Mohammad Shamsul Islam and Ataus Samad, and other senior officials attended the event.
Upon receiving official permission from Bangladesh Bank, the bank changed its portfolios to Islamic banking mode, based on Shariah principles.
A Shariah Supervisory Committee is currently supervising and guiding the overall activities of the bank.
This committee consists of renowned Islamic scholars, learned educationists and Faqeeh.
Following their prudent guidance and supervision, the bank will henceforth run its business activities in compliance with all Islamic Shariah laws.
Serving its customers since 2013, the bank has successfully managed banking operations across the country. The bank has 80 branches, 25 sub-branches and 78 ATM booths nationwide.
