Power transmission, distribution problems remain unaddressed
Professor Mohammad Tamim of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) has said the problems in the power transmission and distribution systems have not been addressed in the proposed budget.
"Currently, we see a mismatch between the power generation and transmission. Power generation projects are being implemented and transmission projects got stuck," said the energy expert.
"We must look after the issues that have become barriers to progress in the sector. But it is missing in the proposed budget."
Therefore, a mismatch in the sector will be visible in the future if the Rampal coal-power plant comes in without preparing the transmission line, he said worriedly.
Talking about energy security, Mohammad Tamim said the government has stated its plan about the land-based LNG terminal in order to increase the gas supply.
"But gas exploration in the country's offshore areas was not addressed in the proposed budget," he said.
