C&F agents suspend strike on assurance of NBR chairman
The customs agents were protesting some recent orders of the revenue board and demanding an amendment to the Customs Agent Licensing Rules 2020
The Federation of Bangladesh Customs Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association suspended the two-day strike within just six hours of enforcement on Monday as the chairman of the National Board of Revenue expressed his interest to have a meeting with the association office-bearers on 7 February to discuss their demand.
The agents were protesting some recent orders of the revenue board and demanding an amendment to the Customs Agent Licensing Rules 2020.
"We withdrew the strike in respect of the revenue board chairman as he expressed interest to have a meeting with us," said Kazi Mahmud Imam, general secretary of the federation.
"From the afternoon, we resumed our work," he told The Business Standard.
The federation officials said they have received a letter from the revenue board in which its chief assured them of fulfilling their demand based on discussion. The organisation will decide its next step after the meeting.
Earlier on 7 June 2022, the association observed a half-day strike over the same demand and then called off the strike after the NBR assured them of amending the rules. But there has been no further progress since then.
