Dhaka Bank supports Bangladeshi climbers in Island Peak expedition
Dhaka Bank PLC. has extended its support to four Bangladeshi adventurers for the "Dhaka Bank Island Peak" expedition, organized by Abhijatri (A Dynamic Force for Positive Change). To commemorate the occasion, a flag handover ceremony was held on 8 October 2024 at Dhaka Bank's head office in Gulshan.
Mr. Sheikh Mohammad Maroof, Managing Director and CEO of Dhaka Bank PLC., handed over the national flag of Bangladesh and the Dhaka Bank flag to the expedition team leader, Ms. Yeasmin Lisa, along with her team of explorers. These young mountaineers aim to raise the flag at the summit of Island Peak by the end of October.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. A K M Shahnawaj, Additional Managing Director of Dhaka Bank, and Deputy Managing Directors Mr. A M M Moyen Uddin, Mr. Md. Mostaque Ahmed, and Mr. Akhlaqur Rahman. Also in attendance were Mr. Sahabub Alam Khan, SEVP & CFO, Rayhan Kawsar, In-Charge Communications and Branding, and Nishat Majumdar, the first Bangladeshi woman to climb Mount Everest and co-founder of Abhijatri.
Sponsored by Dhaka Bank, the adventurers—Ms. Yeasmin Lisa, Mohammad Yousuf, Safkat Faruk, and Sohag Biswas—will embark on their journey from Dhaka to Kathmandu (Nepal) on 9 October. Island Peak, also known as Imja Tse, is located in Nepal's Solukhumbu region and stands 6,165 meters above sea level.
The expedition will commence on 12 October from Lukla and is expected to last 27 days, with the climbers returning to Bangladesh on 4 November 2024. Along the way, the team will cross three major Himalayan passes—Renjo La, Cho La, and Khongma La—while visiting notable spots such as Everest Base Camp, Kala Patthar, Gokyo Ri, and Chukhung Ri.
