Fresh produce from farmers at lower prices available at Shwapno outlets
Consumers often face higher prices for vegetables due to various factors along the supply chain from farmers to buyers. To address this issue, Shwapno, the largest retail chain in Bangladesh, has decided to purchase vegetables directly from farmers and offer them to consumers at more affordable prices.
Shwapno authorities have stated that they are sourcing products directly from farmers in areas such as Manikganj and Bogura. Vegetables including eggplants, green papayas, bottle gourds, pointed gourds, okras, and cucumbers will be available at Shwapno outlets at prices significantly lower than the open market on Friday and Saturday (October 18 and 19).
Regarding this initiative, Shwapno's Managing Director, Sabbir Hasan Nasir, said, "Due to inflation, it has become quite challenging for the lower-income, lower-middle, and middle-class groups to sustain their living. To provide some relief during this time, we have decided to bring vegetables directly from farmers and offer them to our customers at prices significantly lower than the market. Initially, we are starting this initiative with eight types of vegetables, and the scope will be expanded further in the future."
