Professor Dr. Md Abul Kalam Azad appointed new Pro-VC (Administration) of BSMMU
Professor Dr. Md Abul Kalam Azad, Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), has been appointed as the new Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the university.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, through a notification issued on 5 September 2024, officially announced the appointment. approved by the President and Chancellor of BSMMU, the appointment falls under Section 15(1) of the BSMMU Act 1998, and Professor Dr. Azad will serve in the role for four years.
Distinguished internal medicine specialist, Professor Dr. Azad comes from a lineage of medical professionals. His father, Professor Dr. Abdul Karim Molla, was the former Principal of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and also a noted specialist in internal medicine. Professor Dr. Azad has earned numerous accolades, including the ASHAB Memorial Gold Medal in 2001 after completing his FCPS in Medicine. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and London, and his career includes membership in prestigious organisations such as the American College of Physicians.
With over 60 publications to his name and a rich history of involvement in various medical and educational institutions, Professor Dr. Azad's appointment marks a significant milestone in his ongoing contribution to medical education and healthcare in Bangladesh.
