Shariatpur Journalist Association elects new President and Secretary
A 26-member executive committee of Shariatpur Journalists' Association, Dhaka, has been formed with Habibur Rahman Polash of Desh Rupantor and Obayedullah Mamun of Bangla Vision as its president and general secretary, respectively, for 2025-26 tenure.
The election was held on Friday at the Economic Reporters' Forum (ERF) in Dhaka.As president candidate, Habibur Rahman Polash bagged 43 votes against Raju Alim of Channel (33 votes). Obayedullah Mamun bagged 38 votes as Secretary, while Mohiuddin Tusar (Daily Ganomukti) got 37 votes. The other office bearers of the organisation are vice presidents: Monir Hossain (Daily Naya Diganta), Shahadat Hossain Shaheen (Daily Ganomukti), Ferdous Rahman Rupak (Daily Ganomukti), Borhan Uddin (Arthakantha), and Md. Khalilur Rahman (Janakantha) have been elected vice presidents.
Md Mahbub Alam (Daily Sun) and Moazzem Hossain Bipul (Asian Television) have been elected as joint general secretaries. Monir Hossain Topu (ATN Bangla) was made organizing secretary, while Adnan Hadi (Trending News) and Md. Faisal Ahmed (DBC) were elected assistant organising secretaries, respectively.

Rafikul Islam (Daily Sun) was made finance secretary. At the same time, Mahmudul Hasan (Kalbela), Emrul Hasan Bappi (Daily Star), Zafar Ahmed (Kalbela), Md Rajibul Islam (Dhaka Journal), Md. Ali Mubin (Channel S), Pritika Islam (NEWS24 TV), and Zubair Ahmad (NEWS24 TV) were elected as Office Secretaries, Legal Affairs Secretaries, Publicity and Publication Secretaries, Sports and cultural Secretaries, Social Welfare Secretaries, Women's Affairs Secretaries, and Information Technology Secretaries, respectively.
In addition, Md Zubayer Alam Khan Rakesh (Manabkantha), Md. Shafiquzzaman Rubel (Somoy TV), Madina Begum (SA TV), Md. Ataur Rahman Molla (ATN News), Md. Abu Taleb (Mohona TV), Md. Babul Hossain (Somoy TV) has been elected to the executive committee.
The founder president of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), Rafiqul Islam Azad, was Chairman of the election commission for the Journalists Association. At the same time, Kanchan Kumar Dey and Mozammel Haque Chanchal conducted the election as election commissioners.
