UCB introduces a wide range of new products to realize the Three Zeroes vision
United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB), one of the country's leading private banks, has launched a new array of products, including deposit accounts and loan packages, aligned with the Three Zeroes vision proposed by Professor Muhammad Yunus. This vision, detailed in Dr. Yunus' book A World of Three Zeroes, aims for a world with zero poverty, zero carbon emissions, and zero unemployment. To help bring this vision to life, UCB has taken steps to introduce products that empower underserved communities and support the youth.
Today, on 15 October, UCB introduced these new products at a press conference held at the bank's head office in Gulshan, Dhaka. The event's chief guest was UCB Chairman Sharif Zahir, while Abdul Hai Khan, Executive Vice Chairman of Grameen Trust, attended as the special guest. Also present were UCB Managing Director and CEO Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid and other high-ranking officials.
The newly launched products include three deposit accounts named Swadhin (zero unemployment), Somota (zero poverty), and Sabuj Sonchoy (zero carbon). In addition, three new loan packages have been introduced: UCB Progoti (zero poverty), UCB Shobuj Shomriddhi (zero carbon), and UCB Shuchona (zero unemployment).
Speaking at the event, UCB Chairman Sharif Zahir said, "As a responsible entity, UCB is committed to introducing sustainable banking solutions and products that make the world more livable for everyone. Inspired by Dr. Yunus' vision of the Three Zeroes, we are rolling out products designed to provide easy and beneficial banking services. These products aim not only to enhance the customers' banking experience but also to help achieve a world of Three Zeroes."
The retail product line-up includes savings accounts that offer attractive benefits such as competitive interest rates, dual currency debit cards, and no maintenance fees. The new loan packages are geared toward reducing poverty, carbon emissions, and unemployment. Under UCB Progoti, customers can obtain collateral-free loans of up to BDT 3 lakh, providing low-income groups with financial independence and a pathway out of poverty. Meanwhile, UCB Shuchona offers financing of up to BDT 5 lakh for various purposes, including starting new businesses, thereby creating employment opportunities. UCB Shobuj Shomriddhi focuses on supporting environmentally conscious business ventures, such as renewable energy, waste management, and recycling, to help reduce carbon emissions.
Through these innovative products, UCB aims to support sustainable development and contribute to a more equitable, green, and prosperous future.
