DCCI, NUB join hands to work on research, skill development
The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding at the NUB corporate headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday
Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has teamed up with Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) to work on research and skill development to find new ways of creating innovative workforces for the development of the country's economy.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two parties on Sunday at the NUB corporate headquarters in Dhaka, reads a press release issued by the DCCI.
Under the agreement, both the organisations will work for joint research as an initiative of industry-academia collaboration for the greater interest of the national economy.

They will organise seminars, workshops, job fairs and business conferences. Different need-based courses, trainings will also be conducted mutually.
Moreover, the DCCI will assist in providing internships to NUB students.
Shams Mahmud, president of the DCCI, and Prof Dr Anwar Hossain, vice chancellor of the NUB, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations, the press release added.
Shams Mahmud said, "The MoU signed is a milestone and will work for research and skill development that will usher a scope of creating innovative workforces needed for the economic development of the country."
Prof Dr Anwar Hossain requested the DCCI to put forward suggestions from the industry perspective about the actual need of skills necessary for the industry so that academia can design the curriculum according to the demand of the business sector.
"What we teach the students today is delivered to the job market tomorrow. Therefore, it is very important to match the demand of industry and academia on the same ground," mentioned the vice chancellor.
Prof Dr Abu Yousuf Md Abdullah, chairman of the NUB Board of Trustee, said, "We need to come out of the traditional system of education. Global standard skills are more important than certificates nowadays.
"If we can make the students well equipped and ready to handle the upcoming global challenges, they will be able to guide us to harvest the highest goal for the nation."
Prof Dr Nazrul Islam, pro-vice chancellor of the NUB; Commodore M Munirul Islam (retd), registrar of the NUB; NKA Mobin, senior vice president of the DCCI; Mohammad Bashiruddin, vice president of the DCCI were also present at the MoU signing ceremony.
