Disaster, climate change impact: Advance action plan for economic zones
The Planning Commission will formulate an advance action plan for the economic zones, to assess risks from the upcoming disasters as well as the climate change and minimise the possible losses from those.
It will also determine strategies to retain the speedy trend of production in the post disaster period.
To formulate the Business Continuity Plan (BCP), a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Planning Commission and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) at National Economic Council Conference Hall in the capital on Monday.
Md Ifran Sharif, executive member of BEZA, and Khandker Ahsan Hossain, programming division chief of the Planning Commission, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Senior Secretary to the Planning Commission, Asadul Islam said the action plan is being formulated to find a way to deal with the upcoming disasters. This is a new kind of initiative in Bangladesh.
He also hoped that the private and other sectors would be gradually involved in the scheme.
