Finance Ministry organising meetings on implementing incentive packages to revive economy
Although incentive package was announced last April, release has been very slow
The Ministry of Finance is in the process of organising a series of meetings to implement the government-announced incentive package, aiming to revive the economy impacted by Covid-19, said sources in the Finance Department.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi will be the chief guest at the first meeting of the series, titled "Sustaining Employment and Restoring the Overall Demand and Supply System of the Economy", to be held on 26 November.
The second meeting will be on 3 December on "Job Creation and Revival of Rural Economy", where Planning Minister, MA Mannan, will be the chief guest.

Agriculture Minister, Abdur Razzak, will be the chief guest at the meeting on "Expansion of Social Security and Ensuring Food Security" on 10 December.
All the meetings will be held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital. Economists, researchers, heads of offices of Dhaka-based development partners, ambassadors of different countries will take part in the meeting.
To address the Covid-19 crisis and revive the impacted economic activities, the government had announced 21 incentive packages worth Tk21,353 crore, which are currently being implemented. Although announced last April, the release of these incentive packages has been slow. Till October, about Tk50,000 crore had been disbursed.
Progress has been good for large industries, with about 80% of the Tk33,000-crore-package disbursed. Only Tk6,000 crore has been distributed from Tk20,000-crore-incentive-package for the Cottage, Micro, Small & Medium Enterprise (CMSME) sector.
