Carew & Co offering food disinfectant vinegar at lower price
Price of each bottle containing 450ml vinegar is Tk50, while a 750ml bottle’s price is Tk80
After hand sanitiser and organic fertiliser, Bangladeshi brewer Carew & Co is now offering Carew's vinegar at a lower price.
It has come to the market recently, said sources at the Ministry of Industries on Thursday.
The price of each bottle containing 450ml vinegar is Tk50, while the one containing 750ml vinegar is Tk80. Compared to the vinegar produced by other brands available at the market, vinegar produced by Carew is 3-4 times cheaper.
Although vinegar is most commonly used in cooking liquid food, Managing Director of Carew & Co Md Abu Sayed believes that currently people will find it more useful for disinfecting food amid the coronavirus pandemic.
He added, "Vinegar is very effective in disinfecting food. Demand for vinegar in addition to hand sanitiser has recently increased in the market to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus.
"To meet the market demand, Carew & Co has taken initiatives to increase production of hand sanitiser and vinegar," Sayed pointed out.
A top official at the ministry said, "The Ministry of Industries has placed utmost importance on diversifying the products in the state-owned factories and creating a market for domestic products. As a part of this, Carew & Co first started producing sanitisers and then organic fertilisers. Now, Carew's vinegar has come to the market."
Vinegar is commonly used in preparing soups. It is also used for preserving food, cooking vegetables and making salads. It helps to cut excess fat in the body.
Carew & Co's first vinegar production started by setting up a distillery subsidiary branch after Carew's pharmaceutical shut down in 1995. The annual production capacity of vinegar in the said factory is up to 30 thousand litres, said the managing director.
The company was established in 1938 to produce sugar and distillery products.
