Closed sugar mills to be reopened: Industries adviser
The government has also formed a task force committee to address the reopening of the sugar mills that remained shut for a long time
The interim government is eyeing to reopen all closed sugar mills in the country, Adviser of Ministry of Industries Adilur Rahman Khan said today (15 November).
"The government has taken an initiative to reopen all closed sugar mills in the country," he said while inaugurating the sugar crushing programme of North Bengal Sugar Mills here this afternoon.
The government has also formed a task force committee to address the reopening of the sugar mills that remained shut for a long time, he said, adding, "This committee has been assessing the constraints on re-operation of those sugar mills."
"With coordinated efforts of all concerned and the support of the common people, we want to become successful. We are working on that. We want to improve the livelihood of people living in backward areas," he added.
Senior Secretary of Industries Ministry Zakia Sultana was present as the special guest, while Bangladesh Sugar and Foods Industries Corporation Chairman Dr Lipika Bhadra presided over the function.
Among others, Bangladesh Sugar and Foods Industries Corporation director ATM Kamrul Islam, deputy commissioner Asma Shaheen, Police Super Md Marufat Hussain and Sugar Cane Farmer Hasan Raja also spoke at the programme.
