Govt starts drive against illegal stockpiles of raw jute
During a drive in Natore, the mobile court seized 5,000 tonnes of raw jute illegally stored in a warehouse
The government has started a special drive against illegal stockpiles of raw jute in a bid to ensure the supply of raw jute on the market, and accelerate the flow of jute and jute products' exports.
Under the supervision of Director General (Additional Secretary) of the Directorate General of Jute Hossain Ali Khondakar, and Natore District Administration, a mobile court on Monday conducted drives at various jute warehouses of Gurudashpur upazila of the district.
During the drive, the mobile court seized about 5,000 tonnes of raw jute illegally stored in the warehouse of Bhai-Bhai Traders in Nazirpur Bazar, said a press release.

Due to the recent crisis of raw jute, the production of jute mills in the country has remained at risk. In this context, the government decided to conduct a drive to ensure the supply of raw jute in bid to continue the export earnings from jute and jute products.
The directorate is taking measures to ensure the supply of raw jute on the market. One is to forbid unlicensed and unscrupulous traders, raw jute dealers as well as warehouse owners from stockpiling more than 1,000 tonnes of raw jute for more than a month. Another is to refrain from buying and selling unlicensed raw materials and prevent the sale and purchase of wet jute.
Additionally, steps have been taken to ensure the proper supply of seeds during the current jute season to ensure jute cultivation as per the targets.
Moreover, the agriculture ministry and the textiles and jute ministry have jointly prepared a five-year roadmap to attain self-sufficiency in quality jute seed production, which is expected to be implemented in the next five years.
