State-owned jute mill workers in Khulna receive Tk43.5cr in arrears
The due wages were paid to the workers’ bank accounts on Monday
A total of Tk43.51 crore has been paid to the state-owned jute mill workers of Khulna as arrears.
The payment includes the wages for one week of June and payment for a notice period of 30 days. The salaries were paid to the workers' bank accounts on Monday afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) sources, Tk12.7 crore has been paid as the first week's wage of eight jute mills in Khulna.
Of this, Tk12.25 lakh was for Carpeting Jute Mill, Tk36.32 lakh for Eastern Jute Mill, Tk41.2 lakh for JJI Jute Mill, Tk85.52 lakh for Crescent Jute Mill, Tk95.75 lakh for Platinum Jubilee Jute Mill, Tk78.62 lakh for Star Jute Mill, Tk85 lakh for Khalishpur Jute Mill, and Tk10.85 lakh for Daulatpur Jute Mill.
However, Alim Jute Mill did not get any funds for its ownership complications.
On the other hand, except Alim, Khalishpur and Daulatpur jute mills, Tk31.44 crore has been paid to the remaining six jute mills for paying the 30-day notice period's wages to workers.
Of this, Platinum Jubilee Jute Mill got Tk3.62 crore, Crescent Jute Mill got Tk3.48 crore, Star Jute Mill got Tk2.46 crore, Eastern Jute Mill got Tk1.10 crore, Carpeting Jute Mill got Tk40.86 lakh and JJI Jute Mill got Tk1.57 crore.
BJMC Khulna Regional Coordinator and Platinum Jute Mill Project Head Golam Rabbani said the workers of eight jute mills in Khulna region have been paid one week's wages in June.
They have also received the wages of for the 30-day notice period, which has brought a sense of relief among the workers, he added.
