NBR to keep offices open on limited scale for VAT return submission
NBR official said the authorities concerned would take measures as per the government’s decision regarding the companies which will fail to submit their VAT returns due to the shutdown
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has decided to keep the VAT circle offices open on a limited scale from April 12 to April 15 to facilitate VAT return submissions by businessmen, exporters and importers.
Syed A Mumen, a senior official of the NBR, confirmed the matter in a press release on Friday.
Meanwhile, businesses have demanded extension of the time for submitting VAT returns without any fine as the offices are closed due to the general holiday put into effect to contain the spread of Covid-19.

On Thursday, the Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) sent a letter to the NBR seeking extension of time for VAT return submission till the situation comes back to normalcy.
According to the VAT law of Bangladesh, companies and businesses have to submit their VAT return by the 15th day of every month. The NBR can slap fine on companies if they fail to do that.
According to the letter signed by the FBCCI President Fazle Fahim, many businessmen cannot submit their VAT returns under the present circumstances. So, the organisation has requested the authority to extend the time for VAT return submission.
In response to the FBCCI sent the letter, the NBR has come up with the decision to keep their offices open amid the ongoing general holidays.
