Shams Mahmud to head Dhaka chamber
NKA Mobin and Mohammad Bashiruddin have been elected senior vice president and vice president of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry respectively
The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) on Monday elected its board of directors with Shams Mahmud as its president for one year.
NKA Mobin and Mohammad Bashiruddin have been elected senior vice president and vice president respectively.
The new board of directors took over the charge at the 58th annual general meeting (AGM) of the trade body at its auditorium.
The other members of the board are Arman Haque, Md Shahid Hossain, Md Zia Uddin, Monowar Hossain and Engineer Shamsuzzoha Chowdhury.
A leading business entrepreneur in the country's textile and garment sector, Shams Mahmud is the managing director of Shasha Denims Ltd, Shasha Garments Ltd, Shasha Spinning Ltd and Shasha Textiles Ltd.
He is a capstone fellow of the National Defence College. He is the honorary consul of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Bangladesh.
Shams Mahmud is also in the board of directors of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, Dutch-Bangla Chamber of Commerce and Industry and vice president of the Bangladesh-Philippines Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Shams Mahmud received National Gold Export Trophy by the Government of Bangladesh in 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 and Silver Export Trophy in 2017-18. He was awarded the Highest Export Award by Bangladesh Textile Mills Association in 2010-11.
Meanwhile, the newly elected Senior Vice President NKA Mobin, FCA, FCS is the managing director and CEO of Emerging Credit Rating Ltd. He is also engaged in credit rating of corporate business houses, banks and financial institutions and insurance business since 2009.
Mobin completed his BBA and MBA in finance from the University of Dhaka and triple EMBA from Stockholm Business School, Sweden, National University of Singapore and INSEAD in finance.
He is currently the vice president and a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB).
Mobin is one of the government nominated members of the board of directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines since 2016.
He is a member of Gulshan North Club, Uttara Club, Baridhara Club and Kurmitola Golf Club. His expertise covers top management leadership, financial management and project management skills along with ERP solution and company secretarial practices.
Elected Vice President Mohammad Bashiruddin, born in a respected Muslim family in Old Dhaka in 1962, is involved in food and bakery business, agribusiness, real estate development, imports and restaurant chain business. He is the managing director of Capital Agro Aqua Enterprise Ltd, Capital Siraj Centre Shopping Mall, Canary Ltd, and Digital Agro Industries Ltd.
Bashiruddini is also a director of Capital Confectionary, Capital Consortium Ltd and Bamboo Castle Fast Food Shop. He is a member of Rugby Federation and former EC Member of Dhaka Samity.
