Bourses to remain shut till April 11
The Bangladesh Army will strictly ensure social distancing and home quarantine from today as the government extended the ongoing nationwide general holidays till April 11
The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) will be closed till April 11 in accordance to the extended emergency public holidays declared by the government, confirmed Minhaz Mannan Emon, a director at the prime bourse.
In a similar response, Mamun-Ur-Rashid, the managing director of the port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) said, "We are also going to follow the government's decision."
The government extended the ongoing nationwide general holidays till April 11 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus infection in the country, although vehicular movement will be allowed in limited capacity.
Earlier on March 23, the government declared a 10-day shutdown, effective from March 26 to April 4, to combat the spread of the coronavirus. The government also imposed containment measures including social distancing since March 24 across the country.
However, the Bangladesh Army will strictly ensure social distancing and home quarantine from today, a press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) on Wednesday night states.
Bangladesh has so far confirmed six deaths and 56 infections from Covid-19.
