Equity benchmark indices of the stock exchanges edged downwards in the first one-and-half-hour trading session on Monday amid investor's selling pressure.
After first one hour of the day's trading, DSEX, the key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) decreased 19.85 points to 4,978 till 11:30am.
The benchmark index CASPI at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also lost 53 points to close at 14,231 in the corresponding period. However, turnover on the DSE trading floor increased by 31% to Tk400.25crore during the session.
Walton Hi-Tech Industries secured top position in turnover at DSE. In the opening session its shares traded by Tk37.33crore. In this period its share price increased by 5.19% to Tk920.20.
Moreover, the shariah index DSES fell by 5.38 points to settle at 1,117 and the blue-chip index DS30 decreased 10.89 points to stand at 1,696.
Out of the 348 issues traded during the same time frame, 101 company's share prices advanced, 177 declined, and 70 remained unchanged.
