Stocks inch up despite low turnover
DSE turnover fell by 13% to Tk567 crore in the corresponding period
Equity indices of both the stock exchanges moved upwards despite the low turnover reported in the first hour of the trading session on Thursday.
DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), rose by 0.14% or 8 points to 5,596 till 11:00 am
Meanwhile, DSE turnover, a major market indicator, fell by 13% to Tk567 crore in the corresponding period.
During this period, DSE had 160 gainers against 110 losers, while prices of 77 scrips remained unchanged.
Orion Pharma secured the apex position on the DSE turnover chart, following the disclosure made yesterday saying the drugmaker has communicated with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) seeking transfer of technology for manufacturing the vaccine in Bangladesh.
Earlier on Wednesday, Orion Pharma stocks rose by 9.83% to close at Tk51.4 each, the biggest jump since 19 August 2020, after two days of losses.
The benchmark index CASPI at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) gained 29 points to 16,174 till 11:00 am.
