Stocks post marginal losses with decrease in turnover
Turnover on the DSE trading floor decreased by 9% to Tk1,077.97 crore
Indices posted marginal losses on Wednesday as investors were mostly active on the selling side in order to book profits.
DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), came out of its five-day gaining streak and lost 6.64 points or 0.13% to settle at 4,972.
The market started the session with gains and the DSEX reached the 5,000-point mark within the first 15 minutes of trade. However, it gradually lost momentum as investors kept on booking profits throughout the day.
Meanwhile, the port city's bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), displayed a sluggish session on Wednesday. CSCX and Caspi, the benchmark index of the CSE, declined by 22.1 and 24.7 points, respectively.
Turnover on the DSE trading floor decreased by 9% to Tk1,077.97 crore.
Investors' attention was mostly concentrated on the pharmaceutical sector that witnessed the highest turnover on Wednesday at the DSE. However, the sector lost 0.4% market capitalisation.
The engineering sector posted the second highest turnover at the sector-wise turnover distribution board with a negative return of 0.7%.
Beximco Pharma topped the turnover chart with a turnover value of Tk104.7 crore. The stock was followed by Beximco Limited with a turnover value of Tk50.1 crore.
The two companies jointly hold 14.37% of the total DSE turnover.
The general insurance sector gained 4.8% as six insurance companies secured spots in the top gainers' table.
The paper and printing sector witnessed a 1.5% fall in market capitalisation on Wednesday.
