BSEC executive director made Dhaka bourse's MD
On Tuesday (8 August), the commission approved his appointment for the next three years
The securities regulator has approved its Executive Director ATM Tariquzzaman to be the Dhaka bourse's new managing director (MD) — a position that had been vacant since September 2022 — for three years.
The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) said before Tariquzzaman joins the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), he has to resign from his post at the commission.
On Monday, the DSE board recommended three candidates including Tariquzzaman for its MD seat. The next day, the bourse sent the names to the BSEC for approval, and the commission made the decision the same day.
Tariquzzaman completed his PhD in Accounting and Finance from the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He was also a teacher there.
He completed his MCom in Accounting from the University of Dhaka, MBA in Financial Management from South Eastern University, London. Also, he completed MCom in Financial Planning and Master of Professional Accounting from Deakin University, Australia with an AusAid Scholarship.
His PhD thesis was an experimental study on the impact of governance reforms in Bangladesh on investor decision-making, using a large sample of actual Bangladeshi investors.
His current research focuses on corporate governance, capital market, financial accounting and auditing.
Tariquzzaman is a member of the Institute of Finance Professionals, New Zealand (INFINZ), and the Institute of Directors (IoD), New Zealand.
