MJL to replace ageing tanker vessel for $45.3m
According to a disclosure to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the company’s board will purchase a 12-year-old second-hand oil tanker, MT Nissos Delos, with a capacity of 115,000 tonnes for $45.3 million
MJL Bangladesh, a leading importer and distributor of petroleum products, has decided to replace its 20-year-old tanker vessel, MT Omera Legacy.
According to a disclosure to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the company's board will purchase a 12-year-old second-hand oil tanker, MT Nissos Delos, with a capacity of 115,000 tonnes for $45.3 million.
MT Omera Legacy has a capacity of 107,000 tonnes of crude oil, and the vessel may eventually be sold, company officials told The Business Standard.
The company is also awaiting the delivery of its second brand-new oil tanker, currently under construction in Korea. The $73 million vessel, with a capacity to carry 115,000 tonnes of oil, is expected to be ready by 2026.
In addition, another liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier, with a capacity of 11,000 cubic decimetres (CDM), will be added to the fleet by the end of 2026 at a cost of approximately $32.5 million.
MJL is the country's market leader in lubricants, while its subsidiary, Omera Petroleum, leads the LPG market.
MJL Bangladesh shares closed 0.9% lower at Tk94.1 on 30 December on the Dhaka Stock Exchange.
