Bangladesh, Jordan to work together to strengthen trade relations

Bangladesh and Jordan should utilize the scopes to strengthen trade relations, said Bangladeshi envoy to Jordan Nahida Sobhan and Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply of Jordan Maha Ali during a meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting took place at the Minister's office in the presence of other high officials, read a press release.
During the call, Ambassador Sobhan said that she would work together with Jordan to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries during her stay.

They discussed concluding a trade agreement between the two countries.
Minister Maha Ali informed that an MOU between BCCIC of the Ministry of Industries of Bangladesh and Jordan Mine Phosphate Company (JPMC) was concluded in 2017 in the presence of the then Industry Minister of Bangladesh.
Ambassador Nahida Sobhan expressed eagerness to exchange business delegations between the two countries to explore more opportunities.
But in the light of the pandemic, she proposed to initiate discussions between business communities through webinars, where business individuals from both countries can take part.
Such meetings could later be followed up by exchanging delegations when the global pandemic is over, Sobhan said, adding that the Embassy of Bangladesh is ready to facilitate such meetings.
The Jordanian Minister showing keen interest in the idea said that her Ministry and the Embassy could work together to prepare concept note and agenda for the webinars.
Both proposed May 2021 to be the tentative date for the webinar.
Afterwards, while handing over some leather goods as a gift to the Minister, Ambassador Sobhan briefed the Minister about the leather industry in Bangladesh and its potentialities. She mentioned that currently, Bangladesh is 8th largest global exporter of leather products and leather.
In addition to the skilled labour for RMG Sectors, Bangladesh also has skilled workers for leather industries, she further added.
Both the Ambassador and the Minister praised women empowerment in their respective countries.
