Unloading of goods from mother vessels (large ships) at the outer anchorage of the Chattogram port has remained suspended for the last two days due to inclement weather.
With this, the unloading of goods has been halted for five consecutive days. Earlier, the unloading was suspended for three days due to the strike of shipping workers starting from 19 October.
However, all the activities including unloading goods are being continued in the jetty.

Ataul Kabir Ranju, joint secretary (operations) of the Water Transport Cell (WTC), said, "No lighter ships were assigned for unloading goods on 23 and 24 October due to the hostile weather."
Meanwhile, the shipping agents are counting financial loss due to the suspension of unloading goods.
"Each ship has to pay a fine of $10,000 to $15,000 depending on the size for staying one day at Chattogram port," said Shafiqul Alam Jewel, co-president of Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association.
"The activities will resume once the weather starts getting better," said Md Isha Mia, president of Bangladesh Lighterage Workers Union.
