Commerce ministry seeks updated credit info on FBCCI election candidates
According to article 15 (c) of the FBCCI constitution, loan defaulters are not eligible to participate in FBCCI elections
The Ministry of Commerce has sought updated credit information from the central bank, of candidates participating in the upcoming Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) elections.
According to article, 15 (c) of the FBCCI constitution, loan defaulters are not eligible to participate in FBCCI elections, said a letter from the commerce ministry to the Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday.
It was necessary to update loan default related information of all candidates competing for the post of FBCCI director, read the letter addressed to Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir.
The letter, signed by Deputy Secretary Dr Syeda Nahida Habiba,noted that elections of this top organisation of businesspersons and industrialists in the country will be held on 5 May.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the commerce ministry said in an order that taking the Covid-19 situation into account, trade organisations would be allowed to hold elections by 31 December this year.
The ministry issued the new directives after FBCCI's presidential candidate and Vice Chairman of the Bengal Group, Jashim Uddin, met officials of the commerce ministry on Wednesday and opposed the order.
