Railway key to boosting Indo-Bangla trade: Speakers

The use of railway networks of neighbouring Bangladesh and India can play a significant role in boosting trade and economy of both the countries, said participants in a virtual seminar on Monday.

They said that Bangladesh is India's closest neighbour and the relation between the two countries is at its height now. If the railway network of Bangladesh and India's North-East and West Bengal can be used properly it would significantly boost trade and economy of the two countries.

The Entrepreneurial Economists Club of Dhaka School of Economics organised the event on Bangladesh-India's SME sectors.

At the seminar, experts said the road through Agartala in India from Cumilla and the waterway with Gomati river of Cumilla might be an important part for connectivity with the new airport in Cumilla.

Yashoda Durge, an academician and marketing expert of India who was chief guest in the seminar, said that friendly relationship between India and Bangladesh will be strengthened. India's links with Bangladesh are civilisational, cultural, social, and economic.

She commented that it is possible to boost SME business in both the countries by using railways.

Ashu Jain of St Aloysius College, Madhya Pradesh, India, who attended as a special guest commented that both the countries share a common history and heritage.

Nadia Binte Amin, another special guest, President of WEND and Entrepreneur argued that there is wide scope for women entrepreneurship development between the two countries and startups may be started for women entrepreneurs.

Mohammad Amanullah Aman, vice president of Entrepreneurial Economists Club presided over the programme.
