The production involved Messi himself and combined his magic as a player in the circus
'Messi 10', a Cirque du Soleil show inspired by Lionel Messi's life was premiered on Thursday in Barcelona. Expectedly, there was no shortage of personalities in attendance as stars from the world of sports, culture, and entertainment all showed their faces.
Cirque du Soleil is a circus and acrobatic group from Canada, who are renowned for their high octane performances and great production values. They have previously dedicated a show to the king of pop Michael Jackson, which was a blockbuster hit among the audiences.
On their website, Cirque du Soleil stated, "Messi 10 acrobatically uncovers the athleticism, devotion, and brilliance that bridges the world of football and circus by celebrating the magic behind one of the greatest footballers of all time.
It tells the story of a young man with boundless ambition to overcome all obstacles in becoming the greatest number 10 in the world. Exploring all the elements of his success, the show creates a universe where greatness is found in bouncing back to your feet, no matter how many times you are brought down on your way to achieving the impossible."
The 90 minutes theatrical production includes 46 performers and combines breathtaking physical performance using a rousing soundtrack as a springboard for greatness.
The production involved Messi himself and combined his magic as a player with the world of circus, acrobatics, and entertainment. Naturally, the Argentinian was joined by his family at the event.
Luis Suarez, Ansu Fati and Abel Ruiz all attended, as well as higher-ups like Josep Maria Bartomeu, Oscar Grau, Maria Teixidor and Javier Bordas. Several of Messi's Barcelona teammates, though, could not attend the event due to being on international duty, which kept some other high-profile players away.
