Extraction first-look photos: Chris Hemsworth stars in new Netflix film
“Extraction” (formerly titled as Dhaka) takes place in an underworld of weapons dealers and traffickers, and follows a young boy becomes the pawn in a war between notorious drug lords
Netflix has released the first-look photos for their upcoming Russo Brothers-produced action thriller film "Extraction", featuring MCU star Chris Hemsworth as fearless black market mercenary Tyler Rake. Also starring David Harbour, the film is scheduled to be released on April 24.
"Extraction" (formerly titled as Dhaka) takes place in an underworld of weapons dealers and traffickers, and follows a young boy becomes the pawn in a war between notorious drug lords. After being trapped by kidnappers inside one of the world's most impenetrable cities, his rescue beckons the unparalleled skill of a mercenary named Tyler Rake. But Rake is a broken man with nothing to lose, harboring a death wish that makes an already deadly mission near impossible.
The cast includes Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Ragnarok), David Harbour (Stranger Things, Black Widow), Derek Luke (13 Reasons Why), Fay Masterson (Vice), Golshifteh Farahani (Paterson) and newcomer Rudhraksh Jaiswal. The film is being produced by Netflix. Joe Russo has written the script while Sam Hargrave, known for his stunt work in multiple MCU movies as well as small roles in action films such as Atomic Blonde, will be making his directorial debut with the film.
As a mercenary with a dark emotional past, Hemsworth's Tyler Rake isn't anything like Thor in appearance or attitude, but no amount of dirt or grime is able to take away the actor's chiseled look. In fact, according to director Sam Hargrave, trying to dirty up Hemsworth for the role somehow only made him look better.
"We tried to make him dirty and bloody and (added) stubble and a beard and just beat him up," Hargrave told USA Today. "But it seemed like the more dirt and blood we put on him, the more handsome he was. So we failed there."
Extraction is produced by Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo through their AGBO banner along with Hemsworth, Mike Larocca, and Eric Gitter.
