Miles celebrate 40th anniversary through a world tour
Miles, one of the legendary rock bands of Bangladesh have toured in Europe, the USA, Canada, and Australia and performed in 28 concerts, celebrating their 40 year in music.
The band started their journey three decades ago, in 1979. Since the inception, they have entertained music-loving youths with their music.
We are talking about Miles, one of the most popular bands in Bangladesh. Miles are commemorating their 40th anniversary in a special way – going on a world tour.
To make the 40-year milestone memorable, Miles have toured Europe, the USA, Canada, and Australia and performed in 28 concerts – 17 in the USA, seven in Canada and three in Australia.
No other band in Bangladesh have ever had such a long tour, said Shafin Ahmed, the lead vocal and bassist of the band.
"From the beginning of the tour, we decided not to perform any English songs or cover songs. We planned to perform our songs only. And we have done so," said Shafin.
"Most of the concerts were solo performances where we performed our popular songs. Miles have enough songs to engage the audience for two hours," Shafin told The Business Standard.
On June 17 this year, the band announced the concerts abroad through a press conference. Miles started the tour in the USA and then went to Canada and Australia.
Miles also performed in Banga Sammelan in Baltimore in North America. It was the first time that a Bangladeshi band performed in the event.
Vocal and guitarist Hamin Ahmed said, "We announced that we would celebrate our 40th anniversary through a world tour, which we have successfully completed. We started our journey on June 21 and returned on November 5. I am overwhelmed with joy by the love we received from fans abroad."
The celebration will end with a concert in Bangladesh, which might be held on December 27. The venue has not been fixed yet. Everything will be finalised soon, Shafin said.
In 40 years, Miles have released 11 albums along with four best-of albums, of which two were released from India and two from the USA. As a Bangladeshi band, Miles were the first to perform in a show in the USA in 1996.
Miles were formed in 1979 by Farid Rashid. The founding members of the band were Farid Rashid (lead vocal and bass), Lary and Ishtiak (guitar), Kamal Mainuddin (drums) and Happy Akhand (keyboard). Since then, four decades have passed and Miles have been a pioneer rock band in Bangladesh.
Its fourth album Protyasha sold more than 3 lakh copies and is one of the best selling album of Bangladesh.
The present members of the band are Shafin Ahmed (vocal and bass), Hamin Ahmed (vocal and guitar), Manam Ahmed (keyboard), Turzo (drums) and Jewel (guitar).
Forming in 1979, Miles was one of the heartthrobs among the 90's rock bands in Bangladesh. Their contribution in creating a signature for Bangladeshi rock music is undeniable. Their taste of Eastern music skilfully put in a blend with that of Western Rock, Blues, Latin jazz etc. hit instant popularity as a refreshing style in Bangladeshi music. Probably that is why, Miles is on the top list of popular bands in both Bangladesh and West Bengal.
