Bone-biting cold grips the northern region again

Cold waves have been sweeping over some parts of the northern region of the country as the temperature drops with oncoming fear of extreme cold waves.
The cold waves have been raging in different parts of the country since Friday morning and it is also expected to intensify, according to the Rangpur meteorological office.
Temperatures in the northern districts are fluctuating between 7 and 8 degrees Celsius as the night temperature drops due to clouds in the sky.
Extreme cold may increase. At the same time, the day temperature may decrease, said the meteorological office.
There is a possibility of light rain in the next two to three days in different districts of the northern region, the meteorological office added.
Meteorologist Mostafizur Rahman said cold winds and cold enters Bangladesh through Nepal and Bihar which is why the minimum temperature in the northern districts is likely to decrease further.
Rangpur district's Civil Surgeon Dr Hirombo Kumar Roy said people of different ages are being admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital with various diseases including pneumonia, diarrhea, tuberculosis, whooping cough.
Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Asib Ahsan said an adequate amount of blankets and money have been distributed in different upazilas of Rangpur district due to severe winter and cold.
