Dhaka, Riyadh pledge to jointly address climate challenges
Dhaka and Riyadh have reaffirmed their commitment to working together to address climate challenges and advancing the global agenda.
In a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of Petersburg Climate Dialogue held in Berlin on Thursday, Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury and Saudi Chief Negotiator Almehaid also discussed renewable energy and adaptation strategies.
Saber emphasised international cooperation and collective action in achieving the climate goals outlined in the Paris Agreement, according to a release.
Besides, he informed Almehaid of Bangladesh's ambitious climate action plans, highlighting the efforts for renewable energy development and climate resilience.
In reply, Almehaid assured of strengthening collaboration with Bangladesh and other nations to address the interconnected challenges induced by climate change.
He praised Bangladesh's proactive approach to climate change mitigation and adaptation, acknowledging the nation's leadership in championing sustainable development practices.
The bilateral meeting reflected the shared commitment of Dhaka and Riyadh to advancing the global climate agenda and fostering sustainable development for present and future generations.
In a separate meeting, Saber also received an invitation letter from Yalchin Rafiyev, deputy minister of foreign affairs and chief negotiator of Azerbaijan, to participate in the upcoming COP-29.
Moreover, he also held meetings with delegates of Egypt, Denmark, presidents of COP-28 and COP-29 and the German state secretary.
